Our Mission...
To advance the profession of House and Property Inspection, and the professional recognition and career development of Certified House and Property Inspectors in a manner that serves and protects the public interest.

Peace of Mind... it's worth it!
The purchase of residential or commercial property represents a significant investment which should involve a thorough investigation and assessment. This could also apply if you already own the building.
A quality inspection will give the purchaser or building owner detailed information about the building and the systems within it... information that may influence the buying decision, identify safety issues or maintenance you should be considering to protect your investment.
Whether you're buying or currently own the building, a professional inspection is an investment that may pay huge dividends, while giving you peace of mind.

BC Inspectors Must be Licensed

As of March 31, 2009, the Solicitor General announced that all persons offering house inspection services in BC must be licensed.  For more information on what is required to receive a license in BC please visit the Consumer Protection BC website.

ASTTBC is one of the approved Associations.  You may contact ASTTBC to request an application package, or follow this link to download an application form.  At this time we do not have the ability to apply electronically.

The BC Institute of Property Inspectors (BCIPI) is an institute within ASTTBC that delivers services such as continuing professional development to ASTTBC-registered inspectors.

Your Inspectors of Choice... CHI and CPI

It is important to make the right decision when engaging an inspector... a Certified House Inspector (CHI) or Certified Property Inspector (CPI) is required to meet and comply with rigorous and comprehensive professionalstandards. These professionals have a high standard for education, training and experience, must abide by a Code of Ethics and be held professionally accountable for their services. CHI and CPI inspectors fall within the most stringent and comprehensive professional regulations of the organizations offering house and property certification.

CHI and CPI inspectors are certified by ASTTBC – one of the largest professional associations in BC. The Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC has 9,500+ members in many fields relating to applied science and engineering technology. ASTTBC is a self-governing professional association incorporated under the ASTT Act. With over 50 years as a professional association you can rely on ASTTBC members to protect the public interest.

CHI and CPI professionals must pass a rigorous supervised mentor training program before receiving authority to offer inspection services for a fee to the public at large. Other organizations have recently joined ASTTBC in requiring inspectors to complete supervised inspections PRIOR to performing inspections for the public. ASTTBC applauds and recognizes the efforts of other organizations to meet ASTTBC’s standards for professional certification.

Check and compare! At present in BC there is not one minimum standard for professional certification and regulation. Consumers are encouraged to compare the standards of all groups offering certification to make sure they meet ASTTBC’s high standard for professional certification and regulation.

CHI and CPI - Your Inspectors of Choice are always current and offer the highest standard of service.

TWO for ONE – the best of both worlds. ASTTBC offers the professional certification and regulation and the BC Institute of Property Inspectors – The Voice of Certified Professionals - provides member services such as continuing professional development to make certain our professionals retain their competencies.

ASTTBC and BCIPI – Two for One.
